You can finally see Tali’s face, but it’ll look a lot like you

One of the under-appreciated qualities of the Mass Effect universe is the way that so many characters make such good use of the fashion value of the hood. Thus, it was only a matter of time before some creative and enterprising individual took it upon herself to design Mass Effect character hoodies. (Click on the image to see a larger version.)

Even better, apparently BioWare will apparently be making versions of the designs for sale! In real life! Squee!

But which one to actually buy? My head wants Mordin, but my empty mechanical heart wants Leigon.

So, so good.

25 variations on the Bat symbol

via Pop Chart Lab, which calls it “The evolution of the Batman symbol.”

Actually, “variations on the Batman symbol” would be more accurate. There’s really no chronological or developmental pattern. But it’s beautiful, and like the Bat-suit, instantly recognizable in all of its forms.

Listening in on the conversation

Just because if you’re the sort of person who reads this blog, you might be the sort of person who would be interested, Idler co-editor Kevin Mattison and myself have a running dialog going at http://idlermag.tumblr.com

He’s trying to make me feel bad about not listening to more new music, and I’m trying to make him feel bad about not playing more video games (he’s winning), but the result is strangely feel-good. If you want the sell-it-in-a-single-post place to dive in, check out my take on how Boogie Nights would have been a better film if it had taken the world it inhabited just a bit more seriously. It’s followed by some lovely Zach Galifianakis music videos, and Kevin has just posted an outstanding St. Vincent performance.

Also, Anne Applebaum on why QE2 is actually kind of awesome. (“[S]he always — always! — thinks of something to say.”)

Happy diamond jubilee, Queen Elizabeth. And look out Victoria, Bessie’s got you in her sights.

There aren’t many games I buy on the day of release. In fact, one of the reasons I tend to write about older games is that they’re so much more affordable. But I’m going to be all over Studio Ghibli’s game Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch.

All. Over. It.
